the return
hi friends
sorry for my absence.. i somehow lost track of time over the past few months but also have been working on a few things so i took a break from my writing practice.
i don’t know about you, but the days here have been hot, as hot if not hotter than the summer of 2011. i remember that summer specifically because i spent much of it swimming, either at deep eddy pool in west austin, or in the waters off Red Bud Isle, also in west austin. those were days i still went to protests, still attended city council meetings… i also walked or rode my bike to work. it was about two miles away, and it was something i thoroughly enjoyed. i lived in a tiny house on east 20th street, across from an empty creek and half a block from Bennu coffeehouse. i thought that small house was haunted but i loved my neighborhood. there was a restaurant a few blocks away that served pizza but had a beautiful open patio and an alcoholic punch drink that was deadly.
now that place is a fancy high end eatery called the Salty Sow, and i left austin in 2020. this summer i still go outside, ride my bike up and down the dusty road, but haven’t been to a protest since 2019, when i accidentally walked into one on the streets of Paris. its been a long time since i’ve seen protests in the US that might actually threaten the capitalist/colonialist machine we live in. of course much of the summer of 2020 was different. the energy was there. but somehow the chaos of a global pandemic forced us apart again, and now we are facing a second global health emergency, with more misinformation and stigmatization of LGTBQIA+ communities.
so here i am, trying to reignite my writing practice again while the government tries to take us back to the white people’s Bible. i have a few things to write about and hopefully will them posted here soon. try to stay hydrated and cool.
